Chick-fil-A's "The Core Four"

"Hi, I'm Jeremy Teal. I'm the hospitality performance coordinator for the Chick-fil-A brand, and it is such a pleasure to work with such a great group of guys. It is phenomenal. I've been working with the Chick-fil-A brand for about 15, 16 years. When I was actually 15, that's actually when I started working here. But to get in this role and to work in this role as being their go-to guy for training and performance and just honing in on just the hospitality of Chick-fil-A, it's such a blessing. So, one of the main things we focus here at our facilities is honing in on the core four. If you've never heard of the Core Four, that's what we stand by here at Chick-fil-A. The Core Four is creating eye contact, sharing a smile, speaking enthusiastically.

My pleasure. My pleasure. My pleasure. My pleasure. And staying connected. That's what helps keep it personal. It keeps it personal here at Chick-fil-A. And I do my best to make sure that we are always operating at peak performance. Even when we're tired, even when fatigue steps in, these Core Four keeps us grounded. And what I've realized personally, what's in you will come out when you're under pressure. And that's what happened in Cooper's case. Cooper, let me show you this. Cooper, this is him. Cooper went viral. Yeah, he went viral because he was chasing down a car. A lady left her bag. Cooper realized it and chased the car down. Now, people just look at it and think, you know, Cooper just, let me tell you, Cooper trained with us.

Him running and waving at the same time, we trained for that. We trained for moments. So, Cooper looked at that as an opportunity to use what he was trained to do. I train him. I train him. I train him. I train him. We train for those moments. What do you do if they leave that car? It's in your hands. What do you do? Sir? What do you do? What are you doing? There you go. Run, run, run, run! And Cooper, I talked to Cooper. I talked to him once a week. I talked to Cooper and I said, what was going through your mind? He was like, I, I, I just reacted. I said, Cooper, that's what we trained for. He was able to run and wave with the bag in his hand.

You can't just do that naturally. You have to train to do that. Mr. Teal, what about Jahkeem? Jahkeem, oh, that's a kid from Indiana. Jahkeem actually came to us when he was around about 16, right when he started working at Chick-fil-A. We worked with Jahkeem, and not knowing God, God's at the center of everything. We would not know that years later Jahkeem would actually get into a car accident. Jahkeem, yeah, he was. But Jahkeem showed up to work two days later with pain, soreness, and was still able to work. Why? Because he trained with us. He worked through the pain because he trained with us. And so we do a lot of strength building.

Because you never know what someone may go through. What's in you will come out. And strength showed up because that's what's in Jahkeem. Hey, Jahkeem. I got to tell you, one of the toughest things to do here on my job is putting this down. Chick-fil-A has some of the best tea, and I try to keep water in there, but sometimes I sneak over. Oh, my God. Oh, taste and see that the tea is up. Don't worry. It's a scripture. Don't even worry about it. It's hard. It's hard sometimes. When you work for such a great brand as Chick-fil-A to, you know, I splurge a little bit. But we have kale. That's what the kale is for. Y'all crazy. You know, what I love most about being here and being in the position that I'm in is creating an opportunity where employees from Chick-fil-A's all over the world, they can come to one location and train and work together. To train. And to develop skills. And that's what I love about it. A lot of team building happens here. You know? A lot of wins happen here.

My friends always ask me, you know, what do you think about and how do you feel about working with Chick-fil-A in such a capacity? And I tell them, 'Moo, moo, my pleasure.'."
